Sage Direct PGP and FTP Instructions

IMPORTANT: These instructions apply ONLY to self-processing credit unions who send monthly statement data to Sage Direct, Inc., in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to process their member statements.

Exporting Your PGP Key

  1. A padlock should appear in the lower right hand side of your desktop. Right click on the padlock and select PGPkeys. If it does not appear there, Click on START, then PROGRAMS, then P G P, and then PGPkeys.

  2. Right click on your personal key pair and select Export.

  3. Choose a location you will remember and click Save.

  4. Email the .asc key file you just created as an attachment to sageinc@sagedirect.com.

Importing Our PGP Key

We will send you our public key (Gary Sage.asc) as an attachment in an email.

  1. Double click on it and select Import.

 OR

  1. If double clicking does not prompt a PGP message box, access PGPkeys again (see Step A above).

  2. Save the .asc file we sent you to someplace you will remember.

  3. Click on Keys, then Import. Select the file we sent you and click on Open.

PGP Encrypting Your File

Encryption can be done using one of two methods. You will not need to export or import the keys more than once.

  1. Right click on your statement file and select PGP then Encrypt (the closed padlock and envelope icon).

  2. You may receive a message saying “Could not find Valid Default Key”. Click on OK.

  3. Double click on the Gary Sage <sageinc@sagedirect.com> key. Click on OK.

  4. The file will encrypt to the same location as your original file, with same name, but ending in .pgp or .gpg.

 OR

  1. Right click on the padlock in the lower right hand side of you desktop. Select PGPtools.

  2. Click on Encrypt. Select your statement file and click Open.

  3. Continue with Steps 2 through 3 above.

FTP Transferring Your File

  1. In Windows Internet Explorer, go to ftp://ftp.sagedirect.com

  2. Under the “File” menu at the top of the screen choose “Login As….”

  3. Check the box “Login Anonymously”. A password should automatically appear. If is does not, enter your email address as the password.

  4. Click on “Login”

  5. Double click on the “Incoming” directory

  6. Copy your file from its location in your Windows Explorer or desktop and choose “Edit” and “Paste” in Internet Explorer to transfer your file to our FTP site.

  7. Wait until the transfer is complete before ending your Internet Explorer Session. Please note this is a “blind” directory, so you will not be able to see the file after it has been transferred.

  8. Then send the “Data Ready E-mail” to Sageinc@Sagedirect.com with your control totals for us to verify. We will not pick up your data until this E-mail is received.
