This screen is used to define how daily file backups will be handled.

  • NOTE: Settings for monthly backups are controlled via the Master CU Parameter configuration in OPER.

  • IMPORTANT: Online credit unions are not able to access this screen. If you would like any of these settings to be changed for your credit union, contact a CU*BASE Client Service Representative. self-processing credit unions should also consult a Client Service Representative for advice before making changes to these settings. Remember that some features used in a service bureau environment are not appropriate in the in-house environment.

Field Descriptions

Field Name

Description

Day of Week

These two sets of fields (EOD and BOD) were originally intended to help credit unions label their tapes for tape rotations. They typically are no longer used. (As with any flags that are not actively used, testing should be done if intending to change the current values.)

Save back up to

Choose one of the following:

Disk (F)– Choose this to save daily backups to disk (in your FILExxE library) rather than direct to tape. This is the recommended setting. Although saving to disk can take slightly longer compared to today’s high-speed tape drives, saving to disk prevents a BOD or EOD process from failing due to problems with a tape or the tape drive, and it is also much faster to restore files should you need to for any reason. Once all routine daily processing is done, stored backups can then be copied to tape via the Copy Daily Save Files to Tape command on the OPER Daily Processing menu.

Device TC (S) – Choose this to save backups direct to tape on device TC (this code originally referred to “Streaming tape” which mainly has been replaced by 8mm tape devices).

Device T1 (T) – Choose this to save backups direct to tape on device T1.

Initialize media first

# of media

If Save back up to is set to F for disk, this must be left unchecked (N).

This flag, along with the # of media field, were originally intended for when credit unions stacked multiple backups on the same tape, to save tape costs. Since most CUs store daily backups direct to disk now, these fields are no longer used. (As with any flags that are not actively used, testing should be done if intending to change the current values.)

Encryption product code

If you use Defense MD for encryption of backup tapes, this field should be set to MD. This code will also be entered on the Copy Daily Save Files to Tape screen.
