This tool allows credit unions to estimate cash back payouts. This tool can assist in forecasting expenses by allowing ‘what if’ scenarios, such as a rate adjustment, the addition of a new MCC group, or new loan category and running calculations against current or previous month purchases. This tool may be run over active or suspended program codes.

Changes to this screen do NOT impact the configured program and are used for estimation analysis only.

Select Run (F10) to run the forecast on the configured program and view the results in the following screen.

Field Descriptions

Field Name

Description

Calculation Settings

Adjustments Will Affect This Forecast Only

Credit card cash back program code and Status

The 2-digit alphanumeric code assigned to the rewards program. This code is what attaches the program to the loan category. The status field shows either Active or Suspended.

Payout frequency

Shows the configured payout frequency (Monthly, Quarterly, Annually).

Cash back rate per eligible transaction by group

Use these radio buttons to select no group or a merchant category code (MCC) group. The retailer group function is not used at this time.

Group

If MCC group is selected, use the spyglass to select a group for which to estimate expenses.

Group %

Add a percentage for the cash back rebate for all transactions that are within the selected MCC group. This rate applies only to transactions in the selected group.

Cash back rate per eligible transaction (ALL OTHER)

Enter the cash back rate assigned to the program. This rate applies to each purchase transaction, and if an MCC group is selected, it applies to all transactions that are not within the MCC group.

Example: A 1% configured rate would earn a member $1 on a $100 applicable purchase, and for a total of $1000 in monthly purchases, the member would earn a $10 reward at the end of the month.

Maximum payout cash back amount

Enter the maximum payout allowed per monthly calculation. If a member earns more than the maximum configured amount, the member will be rewarded this maximum.

Minimum payout cash back amount

Enter the minimum payout allowed per monthly calculation.

Members must have made at least $.01 in purchases to qualify for any reward. If a member has earned less than the amount configured in this field based on percentage and they have at least $.01 in purchases, they will receive the minimum amount listed in this field.

Leaving this field at $0 will set no minimum and members will earn whatever their calculated percentage is.

Loans to Forecast/Audit

Accounts to include

Select to either forecast all Accounts already enrolled in the cash back program; this option is good to understand how a rate change on an existing program can affect member payouts, or All accounts in selected loan categories; this option is good to estimate expenses on a program not yet implemented, or not yet available for other loan types.

Loan category(ies)

Use the lookup to select loan categories.

Run against transactions from

Select Previous calendar month to use the EOM files to look at a selection of transactions that would have been eligible for the configured reward. Select Current (partial) month to look at a selection of transactions that have been made for members so far in the current month.

NOTE: The estimator always calculates a single month’s expense, regardless of what payout frequency this program is configured to use.
