Access this screen by selecting Tool #178 Calc # of Days Between Two Dates (Shortcut: days). This window also appears when you use "Date Calc" (F2) on the Outside Checks window.
Depending on the configuration selected on the Check Hold Configuration screen, CU*BASE check hold system will either hold checks based on calendar days or business days, and this selection will be indicated on the Outside Check screen. If calendar days is selected, a 3-day hold on a check will release in 3 calendar days, regardless of the day of the week, ignoring weekends and holidays. If business days is selected, the hold will take into account the non-business days for the credit union (including weekends) and hold the check based on business days.
-
For example, if your credit union's policy is to not allow check holds to release on Sundays, the Date Calculator can be used to determine the number of hold days needed in order for the check to release on Saturday or Monday.
In addition, the Reg CC hold of a check will always release the very next day, no matter what day of the week. This means that check holds will be able to release even on Saturdays and Sundays, whether or not the credit union is open.
When Date Calc (F2) is used on the Outside Checks screen, the Calculator will automatically display the current month. To assist tellers and other front-line staff in determining appropriate hold settings, the Date Calculator can be used to calculate an exact number of days needed in order for a check to release on a given date. To assist the teller, the non-business days are blocked out in blue. The current day is marked in blue text. Use Previous Month (F9) and Next Month (F10) to display different months as necessary.
Any two of the four fields shown can be completed:
-
To determine No. of Days (for check holds): Enter both a Start Date and an End Date using the mmddyyyy format. (Either use a calendar end date or a business end date depending on the credit union configuration.) Press Enter to calculate the number of days between those two dates. This number can then be entered into the Days field on the Outside Checks screen to place a check hold.
-
To determine the date on which a hold will end: Enter a Start Date and the # of Days for the check hold. Use Enter and the system will display the End Date (both calendar and business days) automatically. Use the appropriate date based on the configuration indicated on the Outside Checks screen.
If performing multiple calculations, be sure to clear one of the three fields before using Enter to recalculate. When done with the calculator, use the Backup arrow to return to the previous screen.
