Create Journal Entry Template

These steps explain how to create a journal entry template, which will be displayed in the list of journal entries on the Work With Journal Entries screen.

  1. Launch Tool #61 Create/Post GL Journal Entries.

  2. In the Journal entry action field, select Create.

  3. In the Corp ID field, enter 01.

  4. In the Effective posting date field, enter the effective date.

  5. In the J/E ID field, enter your employee ID.

  6. In the J/E ID # field, enter the current date.

    • Enter it in MMDDYY format.

    • The current date is the recommended entry, but it is not required. As long as numbers are entered in this field, you can proceed.

  7. Check the Template box.

  8. Click the forward arrow.

  9. On the Seq 1 line, enter the information that corresponds to the debit:

    • Branch number

    • G/L account number

    • Debit amount

    • Source number (optional)

    • G/L description

  10. On the Seq 2 line, enter the information that corresponds to the credit:

    • Branch number

    • G/L account number

    • Credit amount

    • Source number (optional)

    • G/L description

  11. If you are creating a batch of journal entries, continue in this manner until your G/L is in balance.

  12. To label the template, click Special.

  13. Enter a description in the Batch Label field under J/E Batch Description.

  14. Click the forward arrow.

  15. Click Suspend Journal Entry.
