Create Journal Entry Template
These steps explain how to create a journal entry template, which will be displayed in the list of journal entries on the Work With Journal Entries screen.
NOTE: The data you enter will be default information; you are creating a template, not an entry to post. When you make an entry using a template, replace the default data with the actual data you wish to post with the batch.
-
Launch Tool #61 Create/Post GL Journal Entries.
-
Select Show Templates to view existing template IDs.
-
Viewing existing templates will help you determine what to name your new template ID # since templates cannot have the same name.
-
-
After you have reviewed your template ID options, select Show JE Batches to create a new template.
-
In the Journal entry action field, select Create.
-
In the Effective posting date field, enter 12/31/20XX (replace XX with the current year).
-
In the J/E ID field, enter XX.
-
In the J/E ID # field, enter a number sequence (ex. 123456 or 111111) not currently used in a template, as determined in step 2 above.
-
Check the Template box.
-
Click the forward arrow.
-
On the Seq 1 line, enter default information for the debit:
-
Branch number
-
G/L account number
-
Debit amount (use a default amount (.01 or .99))
-
Source number (optional)
-
G/L description
-
-
On the Seq 2 line, enter default information for the credit:
-
Branch number
-
G/L account number
-
Credit amount (use a default amount (.01 or .99))
-
Source number (optional)
-
G/L description
-
-
If you are creating a batch of journal entries, continue in this manner until all the G/Ls have been entered.
-
To label the template, click Special.
-
Enter a description in the Batch Label field under J/E Batch Description.
-
Click the forward arrow.
-
Click New Journal Entry.
